What I've built

Three businesses. All still running. Built organically with no paid ads.

I didn't set out to build three companies. The first one worked, the people in it asked for the next thing, and I kept saying yes. Every one of them started from the same place: a gap where someone credible should have been and wasn't.

Founded as Crypto Consultancy Glasgow in May 2020, when UK crypto education was mostly hype and bad information. A paid education and community membership, and one of very few from that era still standing.

An algorithmic asset management firm, built because very little in this space was transparent about how it actually worked. Everything runs on our own code. Client funds stay in the client's own regulated broker account, and we never touch them.

The story

Mechanical engineer at 16. Banker by accident. Then a six-figure job traded for a £500 per month start up.

I joined Santander because I'd heard banks paid well. Within three years they had me training the new starts, which is when I found out I was better at explaining things than I was at anything else. Deloitte took that further: five years writing bank processes to FCA guidelines, and being the person around 200 staff came to when something got complicated.

Then lockdown, 2020. Off work, no income coming in, but a market I'd been watching since 2012 was starting to get noticed. The problem was that nobody credible was explaining it to normal, everyday people in a way they could understand. So in May 2020 I started Crypto Consultancy Glasgow from my flat, and that December I left my six-figure banking job to run it full time. Everybody I told thought I'd lost the plot, so I knew it was going to work.

Six years on it's still running. It's served thousands of clients, changed hundreds of people's lives, and it's allowed me to start and run two more businesses alongside it. I'm still the one answering the questions and dealing with clients day to day.

How I work

Honest, direct, and paying attention.

I'll tell you what I actually think, not what keeps you comfortable. If you're about to make a poor decision with your money or your business, you'll hear it from me before anyone else.

I pay close attention. Tone, mood, the thing that isn't being said. Most of the value I add is in catching that early, before it becomes a decision you can't undo.

Plenty of people in this industry will sell you the version of the story that closes the deal. I'd rather give you the honest version and still be working with you in five years. Several of my clients have followed me across three businesses. That's the only endorsement I put much weight on.

Almost nine years in finance before I built anything of my own.

2015 – 2020Triage Agent, then Process SpecialistDeloitte
  • Built client complaint packs for banking investigators, pulling together full account histories.
  • Promoted to Process Specialist, writing bank processes in line with FCA guidelines.
  • Point of contact for around 200 staff on complex cases and process questions.
  • Rolled out new processes to banking teams across UK sites.

New process, 250 staff, one London site, five days. Delivered solo while training the managers, the complaint handlers and the training teams.

2012 – 2015Personal Banking Consultant, then Banking MentorSantander
  • Handled personal banking day to day: accounts, loans, credit applications.
  • Promoted to Banking Mentor, responsible for getting new starts up to speed on the systems and processes.
  • First proper taste of the thing I still do now, which is making complicated things make sense to somebody else.
